Concise Summary of Role in Program:  As Chief of the Department of Orthopaedic and Podiatry at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, I see my primary role as that of facilitating resident education and ensuring that the department is structured in such a way as to promote resident education. I believe that the clinic and surgical experiences need to be balanced and cohesive and follow the mini-fellowship model used at St Mary's. As a total joint surgeon with a focus on revision surgery and experience in minimally invasive techniques, I work with the residents to make sure they have a foundational understanding of how to approach a total joint both from a biomechanical standpoint for how to restore function and mobility, and from the technical perspective of how to predict and prepare for any possibly intra-operative challenge. I am very interested in research and am linked closely with the total joint registry. I have authored numerous articles and have had many posters at AAOS meetings. I am also involved with resident interviews. Overall, resident education is one of the focuses of my career and one I enjoy being a part of.
